80/20 rule of eating

The 80/20 rule refers to the Pareto principle which states that 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes.

For the 80X20 Lifestyle, which these cookies are built on, it focuses on “eating at least 80% whole, plant-based foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes and whole grains. What you do with the other 20% is up to you!” While it’s not quite Pareto-approved, it is an interesting philosophy.

In today’s world of processed foods, it’s hard to remain vigilant in eating healthy 100% of the time, so the 80/20 rule seems simple enough. It gives you good nutrition with the flexibility to eat what you want, not what you should (sometimes).

The mantra of the 80X20 Market is “freedom and balance in life.” This helps us avoid diet failure because we don’t have to be perfect all the time. We are human, after all. And this company reflects on the 80/20 principle not just through food, but in all things in life, including work, exercise, and life goals.

While we couldn’t find out more about the company, we did locate them on Facebook, and we like their business philosophy. But what about the cookies? Did they stack up in flavor and texture?

They did, and they are actually reminiscent of a gluten-free cookie we make at home using almond flour. We tried the chewy cookies, and while we wouldn’t define them as chewy, they were perfectly soft, held together nicely, and offered a satisfying bite.

What we like best about these cookies is the clean ingredients. They are vegan, gluten free, non-gmo, dairy free, and free from refined sugar.

Ingredients: organic almond flour, coconut sugar, organic chocolate chips (organic cocoa liquor, cane sugar, cocoa butter, cocoa powder), coconut oil, vanilla extract, baking soda, sea salt.

So give all this some thought. You could eat an 80X20 chocolate chip cookie and make it part of your 80% healthy eating. Now that’s a win and a big IMBHO-yes!
