Alter Eco enlightened indulgence
I don’t eat many sweets, but when I do look for something that has a low grade of sweetness. So it stands to reason that I would enjoy dark chocolate, where the high cacao content deflects some of the sweetness you get with ordinary chocolate.
Alter Eco’s burnt caramel organic chocolate promised a rich, buttery crunch from its deep, dark, salted chocolate bar, and that is exactly what I got when I took my first bite. It’s bitter, but it’s sensationally satisfying.
If you’re not a dark chocolate lover, this is not for you, because the burnt caramel adds a deeper layer of bitter than what you get with just a plain, dark chocolate bar.
This is not a low-carb treat, with 18 net carbs per serving due to its 15 grams of added sugar; however, a serving is 5 sections. The entire bar is sectioned out into 10 pieces. Because I like sweet in small doses, one section works for me when I have a chocolate craving, so that cuts my carb intake down considerably, which makes this a tasty treat I will purchase again.
Beyond the product, I like this company for its activism in full-circle sustainability and its involvement in community. Alter Eco co-founders, Mat & Ed, have a mission “to pioneer a full circle approach to eating, farming, and doing business – and to inspire others to do the same.” Well, it certainly inspires me to buy more of their products and support their causes. That’s for certain.
