Alternative cookie

It’s hard to get a decent cookie that has the right texture and flavor, but the Phenomenal Pumpkin Spice cookie from the Alternative Baking Company has done just that. It wasn’t too hard, so it was easy to break off a small piece to taste it. The flavor profile was very holiday, with pumpkin and cinnamon blending just right with the other spices.

Cholesterol free, non-GMO, and vegan are the top claims on this cookie. If you’re vegan, you might just love it. If you’re Keto, expect to get 70 grams of carbs in a single cookie—wow! That’s a lot of carbs. (Read the label. One cookie is TWO servings!)

The label is a bit perplexing to me and not what I would consider clean. There are a lot of ingredients. But when you’re constructing a baked product that is vegan, it takes a little chemistry to get to the standard ingredients in a cookie. For instance, the egg substitute consists of potato starch and tapioca flour, plus calcium lactate, calcium carbonate and cream of tartar (for leavening). It’s not that these are bad ingredients—there are just a lot of them. I like labels that are short, where I don’t have to spend time looking up the ingredients to understand what they are.

I couldn’t find much in terms of the story behind the brand. The website was informative, but not necessarily influential. But still, it’s a good cookie and could fill the sweet needs of vegans and non-vegans alike.

Be sure to visit the Alternative Baking website to find out more, and tell them IMBHO sent you their way!
