All potato chips are not created equal

“Snack like a kid. Live like a grown up.” — Luke’s Organic

We’re always happy to try products that offer us flavorful snacking options that are organic, gluten free and non-gmo. Many times, however, the more healthful options of our everyday snack foods fail in flavor or lack in texture.

Luke’s Organic not only gives us a healthier option, but the flavor and crunch are everything and more in their potato chip products. Just the right amount of salt in the wavy chips and the perfect smoky and sweet BBQ in their barbecue chips made all of us shake our heads in agreement. It’s an IMBHO-yes for Luke’s Organic.

While we say yes to the product, we say no to transparency. Digging up dirt on Luke’s Organic was difficult.

We did find the founder of Luke’s Organic on Linkedin, Jaap Langenberg, and it looks like he left the company in April 2019.

After further investigation, it appears that Luke’s Organic, LLC has filed to trademark Spudlove, which also is a farmer-owned, farmer-grown potato chip company. (Two additional trademark filings have been made since the change in ownership.)

So is Luke’s expanding under new ownership?

SpudLove is new on the block. It was going to make its debut at the Natural Products West Expo in Anaheim, CA in March, but that was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

So Spudlove isn’t getting a fast start, but it is slowly making headway. The Spudlove products just became available in Whole Foods in the Pacific Northwest at the beginning of May. They are now available on Amazon, too, but there is a minimum purchase of 9 bags for $35.

Check out the full line of Luke’s Organics snack items on their website. You can purchase these snacks online through Amazon, Vitacost and Thrive Market, which is where we made our purchase.

And then check out the Spudlove website. It has a great history on the product that the Luke’s Organic website lacks. Thank you, Spudlove! We love to learn the story behind the product and the brand.
