In my BRUTALLY HONEST opinion

Simply, too dry.

I’m really not a fan of eating peanuts straight, but most peanut products I try I end up liking to some extent.

I have eaten many different brands of protein bars, but I have never tried SimplyProtein, until now.

I wanted to see if this bar lived up to the hype of tasting great, while touting its claims of plant based and gluten free.
I came across this Roasted Peanut protein bar on
Thrive Market. The price was $8.99 for four bars.

Eh, not bad for the price of protein bars, so I made the purchase.

SimplyProtein made its way into the health food industry in Canada back in 2002 but is well known in the U.S. in over 50 retail health food stores today.

SimplyProtein doesn’t stop at protein bars. They also manufacture a rich assortment of cookies, chips, crunchy bites, and shakes for adults and children.

The SimplyProtein Baked Oat Bar was soft, but it also had a good amount of crunch to every bite.

A symphony of sweet and savory, it smelled of sweet peanut butter with a hint of honey.

Hold on…ahem! I need a moment to grab a drink of water.

That’s right, once I started chewing, the whole bite became extremely dry

Cough! Cough! More water, please!

The bar looks the same as any other baked oat bar that is packed with peanut butter. Buuuut… as per usual with the plant-based products I have tried, I just wish they were a little bigger.

I decided to do some research on comparable protein bars. (I saw the roasted peanut SimplyProtein bars are sold at Walmart online at $16.14 per box (4 bars)--holy moly, that’s steep.) But beyond that, I could not find what I was looking for online.

So, unfortunately for me, I had to use a bit of gas in my jeep to run to my local Walmart, where I saw a box of chocolate peanut butter Quest protein bars with a price tag of $8.88 for 4 bars. So that’s what I’m using as a comparison.

What are the biggest differences in the two products?

  • Quest has more protein (20 grams as compared to SimplyProtein at 10 grams)

  • Quest is not plant-based.

But do you wanna know what actually flabbergasted me?

Quest had less sugar (1 gram as opposed to 3 grams in SimplyProtein). Hmmm….

My goal, however, was to find a plant-based protein bar, so my “quest” sent me right back to the SimplyProtein bar, though I’m sure there’s something better out there.

If you have a favorite plant-based protein bar, please let me know!

I simply give this protein bar an IMBHO-maybe.

The flavor is good, but the dry kills the mood.

Another bottle of water, please!
