Put the lime in the deodorant

I moved away from traditional deodorants containing antiperspirants several years ago. I was having issues with the good ole’ underarm rash. I tend to have sensitive skin, so I did a little research and recognized there were benefits to making my own DIY deodorant. This seemed to work, though getting used to the fact that I no longer used antiperspirant that blocked the sweat was difficult.

The good news is, with time, I got used to the fact that I would sweat a little, which is far better for me than blocking or clogging my sweat glands with antiperspirant. Furthermore, I found that when I did sweat, it didn’t have that underarm stench…it was a clean sweat.

The problem with making my own deodorant at home was the amount of time it took, so when I discovered an alternative in Schmidt’s natural deodorant, I had to give it a try.

Where I landed was on Schmidt’s Bergamot+Lime natural deodorant jar. Yes, the jar is my preference. I found that their stick deodorant was difficult to use, and I literally had to hold the stick under the blow dryer to get it to melt a little before applying. That’s too much work. On the other hand, I can scoop this deodorant out of the jar, slap it under my arm and a couple seconds later it melts right in.

The consistency of the jar deodorant is super smooth, but here’s the catch. Don’t purchase this deodorant online if you live in a warm climate or during the summer months. If it gets too hot, the deodorant will melt. If it melts, it will harden again once it cools, but the consistency will become grainy. It’s still usable, but it’s a little annoying and doesn’t have that luxurious feel to it any longer. (I learned this lesson the hard way.)

While this deodorant works for me, we all have different chemical makeups, so each of us need to do our own exploring to see what fits our personal needs. For me, it’s Schmidt’s, and I love the Bergamot+Lime scent.

On a final note, this product claims to have no aluminum, no propylene glycol, no artificial fragrance, plus it’s certified vegan and cruelty free (or “Leaping Bunny cruelty-free” as Schmidt’s would say). Those are all good things.

Here’s the Schmidt’s website, if you want more information on this product.
