Enjoy the Rebel experience

I’ve been Keto for nearly 8 months now, and while it’s been a relatively easy eating style, there are times I miss something sweet. I’m fortunate that my sweet tooth doesn’t rule my life, and I never end a meal with something sweet. But I still have my moments where that tooth awakens, and I find myself in search of sweet.

The unfortunate part for me on this Keto journey is finding something sweet that doesn’t have an aftertaste. Sugar is definitely out. It’s more addictive than cocaine (so I’ve heard), so cutting it out of my diet was easy. What is hard is my sensitive stomach and overly sensitive taste buds that revolt when I eat something with a sugar alternative. And let me be clear—I don’t care if Stevia is “natural” or not, I don’t like it!

Hence my never-ending search for something sweet that doesn’t cross the Keto boundaries and doesn’t bind and twist my stomach into rumbling thunder, which can create embarrassing moments.

Then along came my Rebel daughter in all her wisdom of 25 years. “Try this, Mom.” And the mountains shook while the river parted and behold Keto-friendly ice cream in not one, not two, but 14 different flavors.

So here’s the scoop on Rebel ice cream (pun intended): it’s deliciously creamy (made with heavy cream), it’s low carb and high fat, and there’s most likely a flavor that will satiate any appetite.

But there are a couple downsides to this tasty product.

1) It’s hard to find as it still has limited distribution. The good news is Kroger appears to be picking up this product, so if you’re near a grocery store that falls under the Kroger banner, you may see it in your ice cream aisle soon.

2) This product contains Erythritol and Monk Fruit. I don’t like either one, but Rebel has done a good job covering up the aftertaste of both. However, Erythritol is a sugar alcohol and consuming too much can create an uncomfortable stomach situation. So buyer beware. If you have a sensitive stomach, do like I do and enjoy the Rebel experience in small batches.

Dear Rebel:

I would like a semi-sweet ice cream that offers a full-flavor experience. Please remove the sugar alternatives and make this not just a keto-friendly product, but a tummy-friendly product, too. Macadamia nuts have a natural sweetness, and so do almonds, as does coconut. Have you ever considered a dark chocolate almond macadamia mocha ice cream with little to no alternative sweeteners? Just a thought.
