In my BRUTALLY HONEST opinion

Juice shot alert

If fresh is what you’re searching for, do not purchase these shelf-stable juice shots. #WasteOfMoney

Furthermore, when you think about drinking a healthy juice or vegetable shot, what comes to mind? Perhaps it’s probiotics. Maybe it’s immune support. What about energy? We can’t find any of these benefits in the RW Knudsen juice shot lineup, except maybe the Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) shot which has one Tablespoon of ACV in each shot.

Keep in mind when taking ACV, experts say it’s best to drink it on an empty stomach. Others say to take it in the evening. Upon further research, we found some studies that indicate ACV delays “gastric emptying”, which means it slows down the emptying process of your stomach. #FoodForThought

The first ingredient in all these shots is filtered water. The label then breaks down the juice “concentrates” added for each blended concoction. It’s the juice concentrates that likely give these shots the mouthfeel of tomato juice… although thin in consistency, they’re all very thick feeling on the tongue.

For instance, let’s look at the Beet Shot. The beet and lemon concentrates have been reconstituted and create a lackluster flavor profile. The shot lacks freshness and the aftertaste is unpleasant, lingering until you’re able to wash it away with a drink of water.

While none of us enjoyed any of these shots, the story gets even better.

When reviewing the RW Knudsen website, we looked at the comments made on these juice shots. There are a lot of positive comments. Is it possible that we are being overly critical here? We don’t think so.

Looking a little closer at the comment section and we noted that around 98% of the comments are coming from people who “received free product”. Ding-ding! We purchased our shots from a local supermarket for $2.99 each. No freebies—no bias.

We were also humored by one consumer’s comments, having received a sample Beet Shot. This person called it “Beer” Juice—not once or twice, but three times in the short commentary. So the story goes: “I would recommend the beer juice shot.” LOL (And, BTW, the photo accompanying the consumer’s feedback was blurry like this person had mistakenly been drinking actual beer shots versus the beet shot.) Unfortunately we can’t post the image snip we took from the site, but it’s in our personal archives forever. :)

The RW Knudsen brand has been around since 1961, “pioneering a new tradition of bottling fruit juices”. A business wouldn’t survive for nearly 60 years if it didn’t produce quality products, so hats off to longevity in the fruit juice business. Perhaps they should leave the shot segment in juice to brands like So Good So You, one of our favorites!

Here’s a little history about RW Knudsen and their cranberry farmers. This is interesting. It’s an IMBHO-no for RW Knudsen juice shots, but an IMBHO-yes for the cranberry farmers.
