In my BRUTALLY HONEST opinion

Skout me out

When I ordered the Peppermint Brownie snack bars manufactured by Skout Organic, I knew I would want to open them immediately upon arrival. I was right!

With only six plant-based ingredients, Skout Organic promises these snack bars are organic, vegan, gluten free, kosher certified, and, of course, super yummy!

The box I ordered contained six bars, but, if you so please, you could order a larger box, but I controlled my enthusiasm and stuck with the smaller package.

When I revisited Thrive Market where I purchased the bars, I was astonished to find out they were sold out! I thought to myself, “Gosh! These bars MUST be good”.

Next, I dug into the nutrition label. Holy cow! Each bar contains 9 grams of sugar, and in my brutally honest opinion, that’s too much. To check my instinct, I looked at the amount of sugar in the traditional chocolate chip granola bars in my pantry. They had 7 grams--two grams less than the Skout Organic bars.

That is when I thought to myself, “of course they are a fan favorite of our children”! SUGAR!

Skout Organic has been in business for over a decade, establishing itself in 2009. However, the kids snack bars were introduced 6 years ago in 2018. A box of six bars costs a whopping $7.99. That’s significantly more than I pay for the granola bars in my pantry. So, with just the price in mind, I wouldn’t buy them again.

I mean, seriously, I’m on a budget, and this momma just ain’t gonna spend if the spend ain’t worth it. But I digress.

But my goodness, the bars smell like a premium chocolate bar. “Perhaps my quick judgments have been too harsh,” I thought.

After getting a whiff, I was excited to finally taste it. I picked up the bar, ate a bite-sized piece, and ugh! It was absolutely horrible. There wasn’t much taste of brownie or even peppermint. It only tasted like a date with more hints of coconut than peppermint and chocolate.

But I also have a way of tasting every ingredient put in my food, which makes me the perfect candidate for writing a food review blog, and I’m not a fan of coconut and dates. If you are, you might like these—if you don’t mind paying a hefty price for a small bar with 9 grams of sugar.

Oh, and my four-year-old clearly has a different palate than I do; he loved them and ate the whole bar—unlike me. I just couldn’t gut it out, so I spit it out.

Now, with the taste AND price in mind? I definitely would not buy a box again. Sorry, Skout. This just isn’t for me, and I’m giving you a great big IMBHO-no!
