In my BRUTALLY HONEST opinion

If we say “trail truffle”, what comes to mind?

You’re probably not far off…

Trail Truffles give you 2 grams of protein per truffle. They are plant-based, have no refined sugars, and are non-GMO and gluten free. In one short sentence, we have shared with you all the positives of these “all-natural energy bites”.

One small bite and it’s head for the trash.

The trail truffles are far from the promises made on the bag: “Creamy coconut butter and roasted macadamias deliver a taste of the tropics for your beach-based trail excursions without ‘crashing’ your exotic trip with refined sugars.” Sound amazing and a little glamorous, right? Wrong!

Here’s what they should write on the bag: “IMBHO-no!”

We joked around and replaced the word truffle with a word we shouldn’t use (but it starts with a “T” and ends with an “urd”), but if we’re being honest, this is exactly what these energy bites looked like in the bag. As for the taste, we can’t make the same comparison for obvious reasons; however, we can assure you this is one of the worst things we have ever tried — stale tasting with no good flavor distinctions.

All thumbs down and no regrets except for the $5.49 we spent on purchasing a bag of these inedible treats.

The premise behind Trail Truffles makes sense. Create a less cumbersome way of eating when you’re out on the trail and provide a clean energy source. Too bad the flavor didn’t come through. You can find out more about this brand here.

To be fair, we only tried the Coconut Macadamia flavor profile, and based on our experience, we won’t buy any more. But there are three other flavor varieties out there, and maybe they’re better: Mint Crème, Chocolate Hazelnut, and Peanut Butter Cup.

We’ll leave it up to you to let us know if these other flavor combinations are any better. 😊
