Outsiders Kitchen addiction

During the holiday, we relished that some of the gifts we received could be used for our blog. And so it goes with sugar & spice pretzel bites from Outsiders Kitchen. The.Best.Gift

Though the package clearly states “broken to perfection”, we laughed when we opened the pretzel bites and viewed the bits and pieces of broken pretzels. Clearly we expected whole pretzels, and the clumps of pretzels stuck together with sugar & spice gave us the feeling of leftovers. Yay…Christmas leftovers.

While the first impression was less than glamorous, once we started eating these pretzel “bites” we found it difficult to stop. Can you say addictive?

For us it was the mixture of salty and sweet. The pretzels by themselves are quality with the right amount of salt but add in the sugar and spice mixture and they become stellar for snacking… and snacking… and snacking.

As we discussed the broken pretzel pieces, we wondered why—why broken and not whole? Then we envisioned a company taking leftover pretzel pieces, broken in the process of creating whole pretzels, and cleverly finding another avenue of sales. What a cool idea, we thought.

But then we began researching and learned that wasn’t the case at all. We couldn’t find any whole pretzels in sight, but instead this company purposefully breaks the pretzels into pieces. Hmmm…

After looking through the shelves of pretzels where there are a lot of brands represented, we noted that broken pretzels could only be found in one place—Outsiders Kitchen. It all started to make sense. This company found a niche, and one that fits the brand so completely. Outsiders Kitchen thinks differently, and in today’s overrun snacking market, differentiating among your competitors is key. IMBHO-yes!!

Located in the Catskill Mountains of New York, Outsiders Kitchen is a small batch snack company. The mission is simple: unique flavored sourdough pretzels. It’s all about the quality and the crunch, which this company has pegged!

Other pretzel bite flavor profiles include coffee + cream, berries + cream, and lemon + poppy. You can order a bag of pretzels (7oz) for $7.99 from the Outsiders Kitchen website. Other products include two types of granola: orange + almond and chocolate + espresso.

This is a family owned and run business—and not just any family, but one impassioned with an entrepreneurial spirit. Another IMBHO-yes for living the entrepreneurial life. We can’t wait to see what you do next!
