Don’t miss this maple kiss
Kids will typically tell you “I don’t like it” when talking about a food they’ve never tried. I was one of those kids.
When looking for snacks to stock my kitchen with, I am always on the search for healthy snacks that are disguised as a sweet treat.
When I was little, I always said “I don’t like nuts,” but I had never tried them.
Looking back on the little girl I once was, I’d say she was absolutely nuts for never trying nuts!
The first nuts I ever ate were almonds. When I had my very first almond, it was those honey roasted almonds from a shopping mall kiosk (the almonds that are absolutely drowned in sugar).
Truly, the kiosk started an almond obsession.
The honey caramelized almonds sold at the kiosks are heavenly,
but they aren’t heavenly when you find out how much sugar is wrapped around those nuts.
I was now desperate to find an almond sweet treat that would satisfy my need for candied almonds that were
guilt free, an almond that had no strings attached.
When I found Skinny Dipped Almonds, I knew I wouldn’t be able to resist ripping into this pouch.
And I was not wrong.
“Skinny Dipped- Maple Kiss Almonds” was printed on a small, 3.5 oz., warm-toned, milk chocolate colored resealable pouch.
The texture of the pouch was smooth but had some slick edges for textural differences. The warm color tones of the pouch were extremely inviting and made it very hard to remain patient enough to take product pictures before demolishing the bag.
I bought my “small batch” pouch of Maple Kiss Skinny Dipped Almonds on Thrive Market for $5.99
(Which, holy cow, that is very pricey considering how many almonds came in this pouch… yes, I’m talking like maybe 45ish almonds in this pouch!)
You can also buy them off of Amazon, but it looks like you have to buy in bulk, for relatively the same price per pouch.
I didn't compare, but there are tons of other places where you can purchase products by Skinny Dipped as well, such as Target, Whole Foods, Kroger, Walgreens, and many others.
Skinny Dipped, started out simply fork-dipping almonds one-by-one, in the kitchen of Val Griffith’s home, where her daughter Breezy Griffith and two of her friends, Lizzie Resta & Chrissy Haller helped.
The idea for the company took shape, and the rest is history. 10 years later and they’re now in the process of creating their own nut butters.
“We craft snacks that nourish your body and spirit. We believe everyone deserves to eat the kind of delicious, nutritious and clean food we’re fortunate enough to share with our families and friends.”
That’s right, no dirty secrets. Products by Skinny Dipped are gluten-free, non-GMO, use no sugar alcohols, and have absolutely no artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners.
Skinny Dipped is actually a really cool company based on all of my research. They are a company founded by women and they are constantly working towards the goal of being a 100% environmentally-sustainable business.
They even source their almonds from Bee-friendly farms, which improves the health of the bee pollinators population.
I tore a strip of plastic off the top of the “tear here” notch and out came a puff of air that smelled of sweet molasses with a bit of spice.
A powerful aroma that smells just like one of my favorite granola bars made by Nature Valley (a mixture of honey, molasses, sea salt, pretzels, almonds and granola–an extremely prominent and appealing smell).
I tossed an almond up into the air to catch it in my mouth (because sometimes I play with my food–sorry, Grandma) and missed the first time.
Feeling defeated, I just put the next almond into my mouth like normal and chewed.
Almonds typically have what I call a “soft” crunch. Crunchy, but not a loud crunch. And Skinny Dipped almonds were just the same, only with a smooth coating around the outside and a nice soft crunch of an almond on the inside.
What I’d call…
A perfect Almond to Coating ratio.
Skinny Dipped almonds are the perfect balance of sweet—just enough to satisfy, but not so much that it’s overwhelming. Each almond is lightly coated with a creamy yogurt coating that’s kissed with a touch of maple sugar and sea salt.
The coating is soft and thin, letting the rich, roasted flavor of the almond shine through with every bite.
It’s a subtle, yet indulgent combination of flavors, where the sweetness never steals the show, but instead dances effortlessly alongside the nutty crunch, creating a truly satisfying treat.
I feel like I have been lied to though,
it's a “no strings attached” bag, but now each and every one of my strings are attached to a now empty bag…
I would buy another pouch if they weren’t so expensive, so it will just have to be an every once in a while purchase for me, unfortunately.
A momma on a budget unfortunately can’t budge for $6 worth of 45 almonds.
But they were extremely delicious.
IMBHO-Maybe, sometimes.
