And we thought NuWave was just a crumbly burger…
Oh, wait! That’s NuWAY. Our bad.
Recently an IMBHO contributor sent us her thoughts on the NuWave Air Fryer. Two of our testers have air fryers, so they were a little more knowledgeable about how they operate. Basically, air fryers offer an alternative to cooking in oil, keeping foods from becoming fat-laden and greasy.
Here’s what our contributor had to say:
In 2010, the Philips Electronics Company introduced the first air fryer. Since then, other companies have joined the air fryer market such as NuWave, T-Fal, Tristar, GoWise, Avalon, and Cooks Essentials.
The air fryer is a cool invention, but the name is misleading because it has several capabilities including frying, grilling, roasting, and baking. Rather than submerging food in hot oil, the air fryer circulates hot air around the food to prepare foods that are juicy, crispy, and full of flavor.
The air fryer is a dynamic, compact, cylindrical convection oven, just in a smaller design. It emits no radiation, is speedy (20-50% faster), provides energy-efficient cooking, is simple to use and clean, and safer than cooking with hot oils.
Also, they do not smoke during cooking and by design minimize outside heat loss. The best part about the air fryer is that it creates healthier options by producing foods with 80% less fat compared to cooking with hot oil.
The air fryer can cook so many things. I recommend spraying racks or food with oil prior to cooking for things that will stick, such as steak or cookies. Some good hot smoke point oils include olive oil, avocado oil, refined coconut oil, and/or peanut oil. Also, spraying French fries with a thin coat of oil before air frying produces a crispy exterior and a tender interior.
We love our air fryer so much we have two of them.
So far, we have only cooked chicken and French fries but coworkers of mine have cooked steak, salmon, cookies and cakes. So in my honest opinion, the air fryer is well worth the money spent.

Editor’s Note: “They do not smoke during cooking and by design minimize outside heat loss.” This is intriguing. Have you ever owned a George Foreman grill? Works great, but also does a fine job of filling your kitchen with smoke. To find a product that doesn’t emit smoke when cooking indoors is a win for us.
We also found the NuWave Air Fryer on Amazon recommended by our contributor. If you’ve considered purchasing one, now might be a good time. It’s a little late for the Super Bowl party, but there’s always next year.
