Eat up the upcycled puffs
Extreme flavor. These are the best two words to describe this puffed snack.
Each flavor profile is distinct, and at only 100 calories per serving, it’s a winning combination.
Here’s how we ranked the different flavors:
Mexican Street Corn with Cotija Cheese, Chili and Lime: By far our favorite with just the right spice kick at the end; slightly smokey and a hint of lime add to the robust flavor combination.
Texas Pit BBQ with Traditional Slow-Smoked Flavor: We were hoping for a bit more sweetness, but it’s BBQ through and through.
Aged Sharp Cheddar with Parmesan and Bleu Cheese: If you like cheese with a bite, you’ll love these puffs. All three cheeses are front and center. This is a Cheeto on steroids.
Urban Garden with Savory Vegetables and Herbs: Big on flavor, especially sage. Eating only a few puffs satisfied the crunchy, salty snack craving.
Smoked Sea Salt & Pepper with Artisanal Salt and Cracked Black Pepper: Holy smoke…literally. If you’re a fan of smoked foods and can’t seem to get enough, grab this snack. It is smoke overload from the moment the bag is opened. We thought these would be best used as a breading or crumb coating for fish or meat.
Looking beyond the flavor, we found the principles of upcycling snack food interesting. With all the food waste in the world, why not create something from the leftovers?
With their motto, “Eat Beer”, Regrained uses grains left behind from the beer brewing process to create these puff snacks, which are a concentration of the fiber, protein and other nutrients that don’t make it into the beer. This company also creates nutrition bars from the beer brewing leftovers: immunity, energy and antioxidant. We haven’t tried these yet, but they are on our list for sure.
From their ingenious idea of upcycling food waste to their philanthropic endeavor of donating 1% of their profits to For the Planet, Regrained earns a big IMBHO-yes!
