What a way to waffle

Stonewall Kitchen began in 1991 when Jonathan King and Jim Scott started selling jams at their local farmer’s market. Since then, their business has grown to selling a variety of products in over 6,000 locations internationally.

We purchased these waffle cookies for $1.50 each from their website: Stonewall Kitchen | Award-Winning Specialty Food Creators. We tried the strawberry shortcake and the cocoa sea salt caramel cookies. The package explains that King and Scott got the idea for a waffle cookie from the popular Dutch snack called a stroopwafel.

My family and I enjoyed these cookies, but they didn’t necessarily “wow” us. I appreciated the simple ingredients listed on the label. The packaging was also simple, but attractive.

The strawberry shortcake cookie smelled quite yummy and was my husband’s favorite. Although the cocoa caramel cookie didn’t smell near as good, it was a little softer. I had expected the cookies to be crunchy, so the softness was a pleasant surprise. I was, however, disappointed at the subtleness of the sea salt caramel flavor. IMBHO, they really could have amped up the flavor and made a much better cookie.

The label recommends warming the cookie over a hot beverage, which we didn’t do. Maybe that’s why the wow-factor was missing.

The cookies definitely weren’t bad. My kids even enjoyed them. However, I wouldn’t buy more to keep in the pantry. Buying multiples of these cookies isn’t very cost effective, and I’d really like to see a little more kick in the flavor.

As my husband put it: “If it was lying on the counter, I’d definitely eat it, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it.”
