What’s the best way to prep a cantaloupe?

Remember how we were talking about growing a 6-8 lb cantaloupe in our “Growing LARGE cantaloupe” blog? We were wrong. Our whopper turned into a 12-pound melon!

Now what? How do you cut or prep a huge cantaloupe? Easy.

We cut cantaloupe the same way we cut our watermelon. (See IMBHO’s Watermelon “how to” blog here.) the only difference is with cantaloupe, you clean out the seed cavity.

Below are a series of images that will take you through the step-by-step process of prepping the melon. And just a reminder, this melon is Park’s Whopper Hybrid. You might just decide to put this on your seed list for next spring’s garden.

“As a boy, I once saw a cart of melons that sorely tempted me. I sneaked up to the cart and stole a melon. I went into the alley to devour it, but no sooner had I set my teeth into it, than I paused, a strange feeling coming over me. I came to a quick conclusion. Firmly, I walked up to that cart, replaced the melon - and took a ripe one.” - Mark Twain, American writer, humorist, entrepreneur, publisher and lecturer
