Kansas weather unpredictable

Sometimes gardening is like playing a game of chess. You make a move then the weather makes an unexpected move then you adjust your strategy and make another move.

We started our plants in the house and moved them to the greenhouse on April 7. It was exciting to see the sun shining and the weather playing nice with our garden aspirations.

Then four days later, we were hit with high winds and a 55° temperature drop, with nights falling well below freezing. So back to the sun room we go!

Kansas weather certainly likes to keep us guessing, and even when the weather warms up for good, we’ll be dodging thunderstorms, hail, more high winds, and of course, there’s always a chance of tornadoes.

Tip: Don’t be deterred by Mother Nature. Be flexible and always have a Plan B. It’s good to have a sense of humor, too. You can’t control the uncontrollable.
