A break from gardening
The garden is planted and everything’s growing… well… mostly everything.
It appears my beans may have been contaminated with weed killer quite possibly from “drift”. Who knows? Regardless, they’re suffering in silence. Now I’m contemplating whether to let them continue their feeble attempt at growing or yank them out of the ground and put something else in that garden bed. Still not sure…
So a much needed break from the garden it is. Let’s look at landscaping on our front drive. This has been an arduous project from digging out large cacti and yucca plants to disengaging creeping juniper that covered nearly half the area. The roots were deep and the hefty layer of lava rock topping off the resident “greenery” added more complication (and irritation) to the process.
It was last October when we started cleaning up the space and getting down to the bare earth. As winter took hold, we opted for a break and began again this spring. (When I say “we”, I mean Ron. He did all the hard work.) You can see from the photo gallery, this was no small task.
Today I’m happy to report that we finally have it completed. From the design of the bed (Ron again) to planting a river birch and some zebra and porcupine grasses, to laying down sod… it’s all done! And what a difference it makes. It changes the whole look of the place. #loveit
Tip: If you ever need to edge something, we recommend Vigoro No-Dig Edging. We picked it up from Home Depot for $40. It worked perfectly and allowed us to contour the design easily.
