Don’t choke on the artichoke

Artichokes are difficult to prep (or maybe confusing?), but oh, so tasty. That’s why when we found the Cynara Artichoke Chyps, we were intrigued.

Purchased from Thrive Market for $6.99 for a 1.79 oz pouch, this snack is pricey, but it shows how much we love artichokes!

A wafting smell of a fried snack exited the bag when we opened it. Did it smell like artichokes? No, more like a potato chip. But what about the taste? These “chyps” tasted like brown potato chips. If you like to dig in a bag of potato chips for the extra toasty brown ones, you’ll like the initial taste of the fried artichoke.

Unfortunately, while the flavor is good, the extreme greasy mouthfeel turned smiles into frowns, and ultimately turned a yes into an IMBHO-no.

We like the idea of a tasty artichoke snack, so try again Cynara. You’re the artichoke experts, so rethink and redo then we’ll retry.

The artichoke chyps are secondary to what Cynara is well-known for—artichoke hearts packed in water and ready-to-eat artichoke delights with herbs and spices. Have you ever had pizza with artichoke hearts? If not, you should try it during your next pizza night—incredibly delicious!

Cynara also has a sustainability focus, which we like. “We believe some artichokes can change people’s lives, and we are convinced that by creating the best artichokes — we can also contribute to a better, healthier and sustainable world.” (Company website) To this we give an IMBHO-yes!
