grain free cassava spaghetti.jpg

One of our taste testers brought this product to our attention. She knows we’re always looking for gluten-free products and Jovial’s spaghetti is even better – grain free!

Made from organic cassava, this product is also non-GMO and free from the top eight allergens.

We must admit one taste tester mentioned its appearance, when cooked, was reminiscent of earth worms, but that was all in good fun. It had a perfect pasta texture that held up to sauce and lots of parmesan. When eating it plain, the nuttiness of the pasta came through.

This pasta is not your ordinary thin pasta that you get with a lot of brands; instead, Jovial’s cassava spaghetti is supersized and filling.

As we continued to eat the spaghetti, it came to us that it might make the perfect noodle for Lo mein. This was a big a-ha moment. We have been searching for a good gluten-free Ramen or Lo mein noodle.

We put the leftover pasta in a container, and set it in the refrigerator for 24 hours. We wanted to see how the leftover spaghetti would react to a secondary quick cook in Lo mein.

Adding some garlic to the pan for a quick saute in Avocado oil, we then added in Chinese cabbage, carrots and some leftover peas. We seasoned with Liquid Aminos* and added in the leftover spaghetti noodles. #SoGood

The Jovial cassava spaghetti did make the perfect Lo Mein noodle!

*Liquid Amindos are made from fermented coconut sap and they taste exactly like soy sauce. They are naturally vegan and gluten free.

Jovial’s slogan is “inherently good” and we agree. It’s a big IMBHO-yes for the cassava spaghetti.

But this company goes way beyond spaghetti, with olive oil (fall harvest olio nuovo organic olive oil ships in December), tomatoes (100% organic from Italy), and products made from Einkorn.

Einkorn is where things get interesting, and we’ll be covering products made with “man’s first wheat” in the next few weeks. It’s very exciting, because it’s a wheat that has never been hybridized and has only two sets of chromosomes. It’s also weak in gluten, which makes it much easier to digest. But again, we’ll be telling you more about this in a future blog.

Jovial is real Italian. Founders Carla and Rodolfo live in Italy for a good part of the year and are passionate about real Italian ingredients. Their Einkorn farmers are in Italy. Their tomatoes are grown in Tuscany. Their olives are grown in Northern Italy. Their pasta is manufactured in Lucca, Italy. Make no mistake. Jovial stands for Italian tradition and Italian quality.

“Jovial is a small, woman and family-owned company and promises to stay that way.”

If you can’t find Jovial products in a local market, shop the Jovial website. It’s free shipping if you spend a minimum of $25; and if you’re an Amazon shopper, you can connect to your Amazon account to pay. Super easy! (Pssst… don’t shop on Amazon for Jovial products. Outrageous prices! Shop the Jovial website.)

The 8 oz box of cassava pasta cost us $4.99. This may seem high to some, but to us it’s totally worth paying for quality.

Something else this company does that is totally cool is its “Getaway”. There is a villa in Tuscany where it holds hands-on cooking classes for guests. What a dream it would be to Getaway to Italy. For more information, click the Getaway link and watch the video below. #BucketList
