Simple ingredients and a simple snacking solution—Lundberg Family Farms creates quality food products while caring for the health of the environment, too.

The brown rice puffed grain cakes are not new or innovative or even interesting in flavor. Puffed rice has been around for a long time, starting with some retro puffed rice cereals still available today. But what they are is a clean choice in snacking, with only two ingredients: organic brown rice and sea salt.

Furthermore, they are the perfect vessel for creating an exciting meal or snack—strong enough to hold anything you want to stack on them, yet easy to eat.

Eaten alone, these rice cakes have a hint of salt that hits your palate and a subtle brown rice nuttiness. If you want a flavor bomb, you’ll want to add some creative toppings. If you need something crunchy but don’t want the calories, these are a quick grab. Eat four of them plain and it’s 110 calories.

What we really liked about these rice cakes is they are individually packaged in stacks of six. So convenient! It allows you to eat a few and keep the rest of the box fresh and tidy. While trivial, we did find it interesting that a serving is noted as four cakes, but each individual package contains six cakes. Our best guess is the company wanted to save a bit on packaging costs. Again—not a big deal, but noted.

In terms of price, it’s competitive with other snacking options. A box of 24 cakes costs $3.99 on Thrive Market—one of the main sources we use to find products for this blog. We like Thrive Market because most products cost less than purchasing from other retailers—whether online or in store. For instance, we looked our our local Kroger, and this box of brown rice cakes was $4.29. All-in-all, it’s minor savings, but even a few pennies saved here or there adds up over time.

Behind the quality of these organic, Non-GMO rice cakes is a four-generation family farm and the Anders family—and they treat their land like a member of the family, caring for it in the right way to promote a healthy environment. IMBHO-yes!
