Mango & sticky rice bliss

We had a tasting at my house recently, and while we didn’t all agree on what was good or was bad, this is one item we all gave the thumbs up. In the frozen appetizer section of Trader Joe’s, look for the Mango & Sticky Rice Spring Rolls. They come in a package of 5 rolls for $2.99—a real bargain.

These are not for anyone in the dieting mode, as they do contain 50 grams of carbs per serving (a serving is 2 spring rolls), but otherwise the label is clean with only 10 ingredients. They do contain soy, wheat and coconut, so if you have any aversions to these ingredients, leave them in the freezer section.

But if you want a decadent treat for an appetizer, these are fantastic. The rice is perfectly cooked; the mango isn’t overbearing, but you can taste it, and the spring roll bakes up to a perfectly crispy state in only 10 minutes. They aren’t greasy either, which sometimes you get with frozen appetizers.

As the group was talking about these spring rolls, we thought an apple cinnamon take would be good. We then decided a nice little sweet dipping sauce or frosting you can drizzle over the hot spring roll would be good, too. Then we all realized we were simply creating a toaster strudel in the shape of a spring roll. But these are so much better than toaster strudel, and you don’t feel forced to eat them only at breakfast.

Will I be buying again? Absolutely. Next stop…Trader Joe’s for some Mango & Sticky Rice Spring Rolls, please.
