What's so uncommon about August?

In one word, everything…but in a very good way.

August Uncommon captured my attention with an Instagram ad. Instagram knows me all too well, and the ads I see actually fit my lifestyle.

There are so many things I like about this tea, but first, let me congratulate this young company on its customer service. So often these days, customer service goes by the wayside, but not here. From the email I received from Aaron & Gina (founders and great lovers of tea) to the exquisite packaging, which included a tea scoop so I would get just the right amount of tea measured for my brew and instructions so I would know how to “master” my tea brewing, there is nothing but good things in store for August Uncommon.

I purchased two varieties of their tea – one loose leaf and one in a tea sachet. I based my purchase not just on their website’s tea descriptions and what I thought I’d like, but I also read through many of the reviews. There are so many unique flavor profiles, it took me awhile to figure out what I wanted to order.

I went with Dark Iris, which is a blend of “rich oolong with peach, pistachio and lime”. My box included 15 individually wrapped tea sachets for $14.99. Okay, so the price was a bit more than I was paying for my original tea of choice, but I know quality tea comes at a price.

My second purchase was Combray, a blend of “organic green tea with vanilla and cardamom”. I read a review on this and someone mentioned it reminded them of chai tea, which I like, thus my decision to purchase this blend. The bag contains 15 tea servings; I paid $9.99, which is actually what I’m used to paying for tea sachets with other brands.

I started my tea festivities with Dark Iris. There was a distinct sweet smell to the blend when I opened my first tea sachet, but I couldn’t quite pinpoint what I was smelling. Following instructions, I steeped a cup of tea for 4-1/2 minutes, which actually was the perfect amount of time to make the tea drinkable without being too hot.

I closed my eyes and sipped. Mmmm… I caught the hint of peach and the citrus at the end. It was smooth and delicate in flavor, yet intensely satisfying. I’ve had other tea blends where peach was part of the profile, but they were all too peachy; but not Dark Iris. It had the perfect amount of peach essence. And I really enjoyed getting the hint of lime.

Though Dark Iris indicates pistachio in its blend, I couldn’t find it—but I really didn’t care; everyone has unique palates. Within an hour I had enjoyed not one, but two cups of Dark Iris tea and had taken a tea sachet to my mom so she could try it as well.

That’s what you’ll get with me. When I find something I love, I share it with others. I have every intention of taking my tea sachets and sharing with other friends and family. I’m even considering Christmas gifts of August Uncommon tea. I think all my daughters would love it!

I haven’t tried the Combray yet, but when I do, I’ll be making another post to let you know my thoughts.

Thank you, Aaron & Gina, for following your tea hearts and sharing the love. What an awesome product and company.
