The perfect cookies – that’s how NuGo describes its plant-based, protein cookies boasting 10 grams of protein each. With only 5 grams of net carbs, it’s Keto-friendly, too. Gluten free, vegan and non-GMO round out the claims on these cookies.

If you stay away from sugar alcohol, these cookies do contain 5 grams of sugar alcohol each; however, often times with sugar alcohol or “natural” sweeteners, I find edible products, like cookies, to be overwhelmingly sweet. That is not the case with these NuGo cookies, and I was pleasantly surprised with the sweetness level. It’s there, but it’s subtle; and I think that’s why these cookies don’t give you the dreaded aftertaste you often get with these types of sweeteners.

I tried four flavors of the NuGo cookies. I was able to purchase an $8 sample pack on their website (and free shipping). Very smart, NuGo. That’s how you get customers, like me, to try your products.

My favorite was the dark chocolate chip, which surprised me, because I’m not really a chocolate chip cookie person. But it was really good. I had been more excited about trying the Lemon Poppy Seed; unfortunately, there just wasn’t quite enough lemon “pop” in this flavor profile.

The double dark chocolate was on point in terms of flavor, but I thought the peanut butter lacked a bit of peanut flavor, though it wasn’t terrible.

These cookies are not hard and crunchy — they are a bit dense — so don’t expect a light & fluffy cookie. Because it’s a protein-packed cookie, this should be expected.

The website doesn’t give a lot of information about the company, but I did find the President of NuGO Nutrition on Linkedin, David Levine. His bio indicates the company is from the greater Pittsburgh area and was founded in 2000. It appears he may have been a founder as well, based on his employment dates.

All in all, these cookies get an IMBHO-yes. It’s the first protein cookie I’ve had that I actually liked. While I don’t often eat foods that contain sugar alcohol (due to digestive distress), I can see myself purchasing these cookies again as an on-the-go snacking option.

Be sure to visit the NuGo website for more information, and tell them IMBHO sent you their way!
